About Peltier
Shanna and Pat Peltier
Peltier consists of Pat Peltier (rhythm guitar and lead vocals), Shanna Peltier (lead vocals), Aaron Blanchard (lead guitar), Andre Proulx (bass guitar), and John Caselton (drums). Each member of the band are from various parts of Northern Ont. Pat Peltier & Shanna Peltier hail from Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory on Manitoulin Island, John Caselton is from Manitowaning, Ontario, which is also located on Manitoulin Island and both Aaron Blanchard & Andre Proulx are from Sudbury, Ontario.
Peltier is a father-and-daughter duo and rock & roll machine that is driven by a powerhouse of musicians and songwriters firing on all twelve cylinders. Pat Peltier was working on a follow-up album to his debut album, Turn It Up, which was released in 2009. However, due to many hurdles and delays with the writing and recording of that project, it had to be shelved.
During this project hiatus, Pat and his daughter, Shanna, teamed up together to write a song called Highway of Tears in honour of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. The song was released via all streaming platforms in May 2016. Also, during this time, Aaron Blanchard became an integral part of the songwriting sessions. Aaron's contributions led to many song ideas, lyrics, and melodies which are now on this record.
Since 2018, Shanna has been in post-secondary school chipping away at a Master's degree, and now a Ph.D. During this time, she began to work on new songs with her father as a follow-up to their song Highway of Tears. Their songwriting initially began as fun demos until they realized the songs had the potential to be on a record that they can share proudly. This realization became especially apparent with the help of the amazingly talented musicians (John Caselton, Andre Proulx, and Aaron Blanchard) who could support and contribute to making the album what it is today.
Every song on this new album, “Days Gone Bye,” has a story to tell.
Some songs support current Indigenous issues (Rise Up and Tear It Down), other songs are about one’s personal strife (Days Gone Bye and Just Like a Love Song), and there are good old fashioned fun times songs (Summer Nights and Fever). "Beautiful Day" was a song about our family hunting experiences and creating family traditions that’ll forever be etched into one’s memories. "Brothers Of Mine" is the type of song Shanna always wanted to write in honour of her best friends as she considers them to be her brothers, and this track can best be described as something as meaningful as the Bon Jovi classic "Blood On Blood". Shanna also displays a fun, upbeat vibe with songs like "Summer Nights" and "Unfold." Further, in reflection on her experiences as a post-secondary student having to leave home to pursue education, Shanna's song "As Bad As Goodbye" is a recognition of that commitment and sacrifice.
Every musician playing on this record has been recording and playing together as far back as 2007. John Caselton recorded, engineered and co-produced Pat Peltier’s first record and has played just about every show with Pat since 2009. Pat, Aaron & Andre started back in 2007 when they were all in a band together called Whiskey Harbour. Eventually, Andre and Aaron played on all recordings associated with Pat Peltier. They have put their hearts and souls into this record and feel that there is a song for everyone. With their love of music, they hope to have captured some of that magic on this record. All that can be said is that the feel of this record was inspired by all those years of growing up on, and listening to, the Rock & Roll gods. We love big drums, driving bass, ripping guitar and... of course, screaming vocals!
This is just the beginning of Peltier's rock reign, as many new songs are either done or are in the works for a second album, and they hope you all get to hear them on the next record.
We hope you enjoy the album, and chi-miigwech for your support!
Pat, Shanna, Aaron, Andre and John.
